Players strategically battle each other with Pokémon cards, defeating opponent’s Pokémon and claiming victory.
Each player can have 38-60 cards, which include Pokémon cards, trainer cards, and energy cards. The player draws 7 cards to start with.
Players strengthen their cards, gain energy, and attack their opponents. If a player’s Pokémon’s HP drops to 0, it is "knocked out" and the attacker takes a prize card.
