Coup is a strategic board game where bluffing is the main weapon, and the goal is to keep your cards until the end.

There are 15 cards in the game, with a total of 5 characters: Duke, Assassin, Captain, Ambassador, and Contessa (3 cards of each character).

At the beginning, players are dealt 2 cards each, which they must keep secret. The remaining cards stay in the deck.

Players can claim to have any card, but another player may challenge them. In such a case:
If the player "claimed" to have a card and made moves of that character without actually having the card, they must flip over one of their two cards.
If the player genuinely had the card and was mistakenly challenged, the player shows the card to prove they are correct. Then they draw a new card from the deck in place of the shown card, and the player who mistakenly challenged them flips over one of their two cards.

A player who is forced to flip over both cards is eliminated from the game.

Players are also dealt 2 coins each, and the rest of the coins (the treasury) are placed in the center.

On their turn, players can make one of the following moves:

1. Income - Take 1 coin from the treasury. (No one can challenge this)

2. Foreign Aid - Take 2 coins from the treasury. The Duke can challenge this, in which case the player cannot take coins on this turn.

3. Coup - The player pays 7 coins to the treasury and chooses a player who must flip over one of their 2 cards.

4. Character actions

Duke:
Action - Can take 3 coins from the treasury as taxes.
Counter-action - Can block a player's action of taking foreign aid.

Assassin:

Action - Pays 3 coins and chooses which player to assassinate (force them to flip over a card). This action can be blocked by the Contessa.

Captain:
Action - Steals 2 coins from other players. This action can be blocked by another Captain or an Ambassador.
Counter-action - Blocks another Captain's action.

Ambassador:

Action - Draws 2 cards from the deck and exchanges their card(s) with them.
Counter-action - Blocks the Captain's action.
Their action cannot be blocked, but it can be challenged.

Contessa:
Action - Unlike other characters, she has no action.
Counter-action - Blocks the Assassin's action when the Contessa is being assassinated.
